Happy New Year 2025

Christmas Garland on a Georgian from door

Dear Parishioners [and anyone else who has found this site]

From your Parish Council, we wish you a prosperous, healthy and democratic new year for 2025.  For observers of Parish Council business we are due to have our first meeting of the calendar year 2025 at 8pm on Tuesday January 7th 2025.  We will be convening at the Cold Ashton Parish Hall and the order of business is:

  • setting the Parish precept for 2025/26
  • setting out standing orders for Parish business
  • discussion of planning control matters for Cold Ashton Parish

Whereas the Cold Ashton Parish area is a very small one, the Parish Council is a place where we [as a community] have a voice within local government distinct from our individual voting power (important in any democracy) and as individual tax payers.   All parishioners have the right to turn up for our meetings to observe how the Parish Council [as a corporate body] manages the Parish Precept that is currently set at around £40 per household (assuming a Band D property).

Major Resurfacing on Bath Road

Residents of Lower Hamswell, there will be noisy and major road resurfacing announced for the Bath Road from the Freezing Hill Lane junction to the Battlefields lay-by.  Work will take place from 7pm to 6am along this stretch from September 20 to September 27.  We are informed that it is likely to be noisy.

General Election 2024 on July 4 and Parish Council meeting on July 10

The mandate by which we get to vote our national and local governments is a precious and hard earned thing.  As a Parish Council we encourage all of our residents to exercise your democratic duty/right on July 4th 2024.  If you are going to vote in person, the Parish Hall (in Cold Ashton) is where our lovely election officials will be waiting for you.  Remember to take a form of photo ID.  The booths will be open from 7am to 10pm.

I also give notice that the bi-monthly Parish Council meeting will be held on July 10th also in the Parish Hall – the meeting will start from 8pm.  All residents of the Parish can attend and we will be discussing the recent planning application for the refurbishment of the Parish Hall.  Come along, have your say and impact on future Cold Ashton communities.
